After receiving viral acclaim from narrating on ITV 2’s hit show Love Island in the summer, performing a completely sold out month long run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August, hosting US YouTube sensations JOE SUGG and CASPAR LEE (over 14 million followers) on the UK leg of their tour in October and being awarded Best Presenter at the Children’s BAFTAs over the weekend, stand-up comedian IAIN STIRLING will bring his fifth show Onwards! to UK theatres in the New Year. Exploring the perception of his generation within today’s society, as well as looking at their function within it, IAIN will provide “an intriguing twentysomething perspective on the current state of his nation” (The Guardian Guide) from 2nd February to the 31st March.
IAIN returned to voice the second series of Love Island (ITV2) alongside presenter CAROLINE FLACK earlier this year, which enjoyed a peak of 1.8 million and a consolidated average of 1.4 million viewers (over 830,000 more than in series one). His role writing and narrating on the show was significantly acknowledged in the press, with praise including “the hilarious Scottish narrator brings some serious banter to the show with his punchy one-liners” (Daily Mail), “offering up short, sharp and smart thoughts…Stirling adds topical panel show vibe to proceedings” (Radio Times) and “voiceover genius” (Cosmopolitan). Most recently IAIN joined the panel on Virtually Famous (E4) and was a guest on The Chris Ramsey Show (Comedy Central), adding to a list of multiple television credits including Pumped (BBC Three), Drunk History (Comedy Central), Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC Three), Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central), Fake Reaction and Safe Word (ITV2) and Sweat the Small Stuff (BBC Three). A driving force behind the concept of comedy panel show The Dog Ate My Homework (CBBC), IAIN has co-written and hosted four series which has seen celebrity guests including ROMESH RANGANATHAN, JOEL DOMMETT and SUSAN CALMAN and for which he has recently been awarded Best Presenter (Children’s BAFTA), following three nominations prior to this, and was awarded Best Children’s Programme (BAFTA Scotland) last year.
A regular voice on the radio too, IAIN has made appearances on shows including The Now Show and Dilemma (both BBC Radio 4), Afternoon Edition (BBC Radio 5 Live), Cel Spellman (BBC Radio One) and recorded a Radio One takeover.
IAIN burst onto the comedy scene whilst studying for a Law degree at Edinburgh University, reaching the finals of both the Paramount Funniest Student competition (2009), and the Chortle Student Comedian of the Year competition (2009). He has since performed stand-up shows Happy To Be The Clown? (2012), Iain Stirling At Home (2013), Everything (2014), Touchy Feely (2015) and Onwards! (2016) which have been met with rave reviews and played to packed houses at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Just one week after graduating, IAIN found himself on a train down to London to begin presenting on CBBC where he has worked on a number of projects, including: Help! My Supply Teacher Is Magic, 12 Again, All Over the Place and The Dog Ate My Homework. His love of football has led him to commentate for CBBC’s Red Button Coverage of the World Cup and he has also appeared on CBBC’s Match of the Day Kickabout and Hawksbee and Jacobs (talkSPORT).
