Natasha Hodgson is an award-winning writer and performer specialising in musical theatre, comedy and animation.
Her new comedy musical Operation Mincemeat (which she co-created, co-wrote, co-composed in as part of theatre company Spitlip) opened at the Fortune Theatre in London’s West End in May 2023 and is the best reviewed show in West End history having received over 60 five-star reviews and won the prestigious Best New Musical Olivier award. She starred in the show for it’s first year as Ewen Montagu for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award. The show is still running to packed houses to this day and the original cast album (featuring Natasha in multiple roles) was produced by Grammy award winning and Tony and Olivier award nominated Steve Sidwell and was released by Sony Music on CD, vinyl and streaming. It was subsequently released in the US by Sony’s musical theatre label Sony Masterworks Broadway.
The show was originally commissioned by the New Diorama Theatre and first performed in 2019 (winning the Stage Debut award for Best Composer/Lyricist and the Off West End Award for Best Musical Production and Best Company Ensemble) before being revised through multiple runs at the Southwark Playhouse and the Riverside Studios.
Natasha’s first scripted comedy series The Sink was created and written for BBC Sounds by Natasha, and she also starred in it alongside Alice Lowe, David Elms, Celeste Dring and Jason Forbes. The show received multiple five-star reviews, a nomination for Best Podcast/Online Audio at the Audio Drama Awards 2021 and was named one of the Top 20 Podcasts of the year by The Guardian.
A very in-demand writer both in the UK and the US, Natasha’s TV writing credits include the BAFTA award winning series Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared and Amazing World of Gumball and Bravest Warriors, created by Adventuretime’s Pendelton Ward, as well as projects currently in development with Comedy Central US and Two Brothers. Further performance credits include appearances on Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, The Now Show, Newsjack Unplugged, and Front Row on BBC Radio 4. Natasha is also one fifth of Kill the Beast with whom she has co-created, co-written and co-performed in multiple critically-acclaimed and award-winning projects including theatre shows The Boy Who Kicked Pigs; He Had Hairy Hands; Don’t Wake the Damp; and Director’s Cut and audio series Eglantine Whitechapel: Supernatural Detective and Who Exploded Vivian Stone?
