Comedy Award winner, BAFTA & RTS Award nominee, Creator, writer, director and star of international hit romcom Starstruck, and host of Channel 4’s upcoming brand-new Junior Taskmaster Rose Matafeo is making a highly anticipated return to stand-up and will perform her brand-new show On And On And On at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe at Pleasance Forth from 9th – 25th August, before taking the show for a three week run at London’s Arcola Theatre from Monday 30th September to Saturday 19th October. Following a run at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival which saw the show receive a nomination for the Best Show award, On And On And On is a return to stand up where Matafeo explores all the regular stuff: love, loneliness, miscellaneous worries, her favourite fonts and death (order may vary).

 

Elsewhere, it has been revealed that Matafeo will star in and host the brand-new show Junior Taskmaster as the titular Junior Taskmaster herself later this year on Channel 4. Assuming the role of the mighty Junior Taskmaster to score the efforts and assign points to five plucky junior contestants as they complete a series of characteristically bizarre tasks that are designed to encourage and inspire wile, wit, creativity, and athleticism in the show that recognises genius at any age.

 

Renowned for her international hit romcom Starstruck, which she created, wrote, directed, and starred in, Matafeo’s work consistently receives huge critical praise across the globe. Starstruck has been nominated for Best Comedy Programme at the Broadcast Awards 2022, and Best Comedy Series at the Edinburgh TV Awards 2021, while Matafeo has received nominations from BAFTA 2022 for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme, RTS Award nomination for Female Comedy Performance, a National Comedy Award 2021 for Best Breakthrough Artist, and more recently has picked up a nomination for Best Comedy Performance at the Edinburgh TV Awards 2024. The show enjoyed three critically acclaimed series for BBC Three and HBO Max, and soon after launch in the UK it became the BBC’s best performing new comedy of the year with over four million downloads on BBC iPlayer to date. The show was also pre-sold to over 100 territories including Australia (ABC) and New Zealand (TVNZ).

In the US, Rose has performed stand-up on Conan (TBS) and has appeared as a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers (NBC), The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (CBS), and The Kelly Clarkson Show (NBC), while she is set to star as the voice of Loto in the brand new feature film Moana 2. In New Zealand Rose was the lead writer and star of the sketch show Funny Girls (TV3), and a regular on panel show 7 Days (Three Now NZ). 2020 saw her star to great acclaim in the feature Baby, Done (Piki Films). She also co-hosts the podcast Boners of the Heart with fellow comic Alice Snedden.

 

Matafeo’s previous run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with the critically acclaimed show Horndog saw her win the Comedy Award (formerly the Perrier) for Best Show and was nominated for Best Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The show went on the enjoy a sell-out run at London’s Soho Theatre, and was recorded for a stand-up special for HBO Max.
