Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney’s endlessly sharp comedy about the strange business of marriage and parenthood — remains something approaching a work of genius. Almost every line is still a perfect encapsulation of, if not what people say, then what they would say if only they were cleverer, funnier and more fearless. There’s the same immaculate intertwining of filth and tenderness, and the same ability to treat its characters in a way that’s both unsparing and sympathetic.
James Walton, The Spectator

remains the funniest programme on television, despite its success. Horgan and Delaney might justifiably have grown lazy: they haven’t.
Euan Ferguson, The Observer

Written by and starring Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan, Catastrophe has received universal critical acclaim and a raft of awards since launching in 2015.  All three series have a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (representing the percentage of professional critic reviews that are positive for a given film or TV show) while series three launched on Channel 4 in 2017 to its biggest audience to date.

We re-join the couple after Rob’s (Rob Delaney) secret relapse to alcoholism ended in a dramatic car crash and forced confession to Sharon (Sharon Horgan), while Chris (Mark Bonnar) displayed an unexpected softer side towards Rob and an altogether less soft side to Fran’s (Ashley Jensen) obnoxious new boyfriend.  Now, as Rob tries to head on the straight and narrow and Sharon does her best to support, “it’s like he’s on a crusade, but to somewhere boring and we all have to come”, will the couple navigate the relentless tsunami of life’s challenges, or see their relationship finally submerged by it all?  With Rob potentially not the only one on the wrong side of the law, health issues, new religious dalliances, a “briefcase of vegetables” and ever-infuriating family members to contend with, what could possibly go wrong?

After premiering on Channel 4 the show is broadcast in the USA as an Amazon Prime Original and broadcasts in another 132 countries around the world.

Catastrophe has won a BAFTA TV Award (Writer: Comedy), two Royal Television Society Awards (Scripted Comedy and Writer: Comedy) two Broadcasting Press Guild Awards (Best Comedy and Best Writer), a Rose D’Or Award (Best Sitcom), a Golden Nymph Award (Best Actress in Comedy); a South Bank Sky Arts Award (Comedy); a Televisual Bulldog Award (Best Comedy), a Broadcast Award (Best Comedy), a Women in Film and TV Awards (Writing), and has been Emmy-nominated twice (Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Best Guest Actress: Carrie Fisher).

An Avalon Television production, with co-producers Birdbath Productions and Merman, the commissioning editors are Jack Bayles and Fiona McDermott for Channel 4. The series is directed by Jim O’Hanlon (Marcella, Inside No. 9) and produced by Toby Welch (Skins, Man Down), and the Executive Producers are Richard Allen-Turner, Kara Baker, Rob Delaney, Sharon Horgan and Jon Thoday.

What the press said about series 3 continued…

another strong series, one that has dealt in bleakness and sentimentality, often in the same breath… wickedly funny
Rebecca Nicholson, The Guardian

Three seasons in, the brilliance of Amazon’s unbelievably funny Catastrophe is in how it makes perceptible the kinds of relationship-related details that are often least visible
Spencer Kornhaber, The Atlantic

still scabrous and hilarious. But its third series is also more sad, serious and poignant
Kate Abbott, The Guardian (The best TV of 2017)

delve even deeper into the oft-unspoken realities of modern parenthood in an insightful, heavy, and hilarious new season Grade: A-
Ben Travers, IndieWire

excellent comedy returns, hilarious as ever… six-episode seasons are too short
Tim Goodman, The Hollywood Reporter

3 seasons in, Catastrophe is still one of the best-acted, best-written comedies on TV
Erik Adams, The AV Club

People’s faces have a way of sweetly melting whenever I bring up Amazon’s romantic dramedy series “Catastrophe,”… Sadness and dread have settled in, handled with the same skill with which “Catastrophe” subverted the notion of a love story

Gerard O’Donovan, The Daily Telegraph

It’s beautifully observed, and if the characters seem more woundingly articulate than is usual in a sitcom, that’s what makes them feel realistic. Horgan and Delaney are always funny but they’re not afraid to add a bit of darkness.
Alastair McKay, The Evening Standard

Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney master the art of television writing. This superior third season saw TV’s most likeable lead characters handed a more compelling trajectory than most drama series manage, with escalating life events involving parenthood, family deaths, and alcoholism dealt with in both hilarious and heartfelt manners. How the duo manages to convey an engrossing story amid the comedic antics is nothing short of sensational…A series to be preserved for future “this is how you do it” masterclasses.
Christopher Hooton, The Independent

superb and extremely funny third series
Chris Bennion, The Times

Hugely enjoyable

Catastrophe has evolved into the most realistic comedy on TV ★★★★
Christopher Stevens, The Daily Mail

Sweary and filthy, yet tender and believable, this comedy written by and starring Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney is one of the best things on TV
Sara Wallis, The Mirror

Catastrophe’s peerless genius is how it manages to turn the uncomfortable indignities of intimacy into entertainment.
Ellen E Jones, The Evening Standard

Great writing, great rhythm, great fun.
Mike Bradley, The Observer

the Channel 4 comedy maintains its viscerally funny punch with every line.
