HOST OF GLOBAL HIT SATIRICAL PODCAST, ANDY ZALTZMAN ROUNDS UP THE YEAR AT SOHO THEATRE WITH ‘2018: THE CERTIFIABLE HISTORY’

“Political comedy at its best” Stephen Armstrong, Sunday Times

“Fiendishly sharp satirist” Bruce Dessau, Evening Standard

Following a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe and his third US tour earlier this year, Andy Zaltzman, host of the worldwide hit satirical podcast The Bugle (over 70 million downloads), returns to the Soho Theatre with the third edition of his irrefutably indisputable stand-up review of the global year from the 18th December 2018 to 5th January 2019.

A hardened veteran of all 12 months of 2018, Zaltzman will attempt to make (a) sense, and (b) nonsense, of a year that – like so many other years – has awkwardly hosted a cantankerous squabble between the present, the past and the future in 2018: The Certifiable History.  Topics addressed will include:  Britain’s ongoing stumblestrop towards whatever Brexit transpires to be; the USA loggerheads itself against its old sparring partner, the USA; and the entertainingly uncoordinated global dance-off between mind-bending futuristic technology and barely medieval politics.

Alongside performing a two-week run at the Soho Theatre, Andy is set to bring a live episode of his global hit satirical podcast The Bugle to London’s Leicester Square Theatre on the 14th November, featuring BBC Two’s The Mash Report presenter Nish Kumar and 2018 Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Felicity Ward. The show will see them satirising major, minor and made-up news stories, as they attempt to find the funny side of one of the least amusing news environments in living memory.

Andy is a stand-up comedian, broadcaster and author, who has firmly established himself in the vanguard of British comedy with his unique brand of political satire. He is the writer and presenter of the satirical podcast The Bugle, one of iTunes’s biggest ever comedy podcasts. Since The Bugle’s inception in 2007 it has gained a worldwide fan-base – including a prominent US audience. It has aired almost 300 episodes and averages 1 million downloads a month. With thousands of 5-star reviews on iTunes, it has been described as “a roaring success” by The Independent. Initially co-written and presented with John Oliver (host of HBO’s Last Week Tonight), the podcast has now been relaunched as part of the Radiotopia network, with Andy joined by a revolving group of regular co-hosts including Hari Kondabolu, Nish Kumar, Wyatt Cenac and Helen Zaltzman.

Andy recently traced the rise and fall of the British Empire with Anuvab Pal for BBC Radio 4 series, Empire-ical Evidence, adding to numerous and diverse broadcast appearances including: Unspun with Matt Forde (Dave), John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show (Comedy Central), Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC Three), The Alternative Comedy Experience (Comedy Central), 8 Out of 10 Cats (Channel 4), Dave’s One Night Stand (Dave),  Newsnight (BBC Two), Sky NewsDaily Politics (BBC Two), CNN, The Late and Live Guide to Comedy (BBC Two), The Politics Show (BBC One) and BBC News. He has also performed stand-up around the world, with appearances at the Melbourne, Sydney and New Zealand Comedy Festivals, as well as tours of the USA and India.

Also regarded as one of the funniest and most distinctive voices in the cricket media, Andy’s writings include a major article recently in the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack.  He has contributed blogs, podcasts and videos to ESPNcricinfo since 2008, and in 2016 joined the BBC’s Test Match Special commentary team as an expert statistician.  He has also hosted Andy Zaltzman’s Summer of Sport, a non-football sports comedy podcast for The Guardian.
