King of Edinburgh, podcasting legend, and the world’s only semi-professional self-playing snookerist, RICHARD HERRING is set to embark on a brand new nationwide tour with ‘The Best’; his favourite routines from the twelve one-man shows that he has written and performed in the last 15 years. Kicking off in Sheffield on 6th October, “the best comedian of his generation” (GQ) will play 60 dates around the country, including three nights at London’s Leicester Square Theatre from 16th – 18th February.
RICHARD has appeared at nearly every Edinburgh Festival Fringe since 1987, and has toured nationwide, both as part of the Lee and Herring double act and in his solo shows: Happy Now?, Lord of the Dance Settee, We’re All Going to Die, Talking Cock, What Is Love, Anyway, Christ on a Bike, Hitler Moustache, The Headmaster’s Son, Oh Fuck, I’m 40!, Ménage á un, Someone Likes Yoghurt and The Twelve Tasks of Hercules Terrace. An extraordinarily prolific podcaster, Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast has seen him interview some of the biggest names in the world of comedy and beyond including STEPHEN FRY, TIM MINCHIN, and ARMANDO IANUCCI. The show, downloaded by up to 200,000 listeners per episode, regularly places in the Top 10 on iTunes UK Comedy Podcast chart and is the only non-BBC show to ever win a Sony Best Comedy Award. Since 2015 RICHARD has raised over £250,000 via Kickstarter to fund his podcasts, including a new video series of his seminal stand-up and sketch show As It Occurs To Me. RICHARD’s other podcasting ventures include Richard Herring’s Edinburgh Fringe Podcast, The Collings and Herrin Podcast, and Me 1 vs. Me 2 Snooker with Richard Herring. He also writes a weekly column for the Metro, is working on a brand new sitcom called Relativity for BBC Radio 4, and has a script in development with Channel 4.
On TV and radio RICHARD has appeared on shows including Have I Got News For You (BBC One), Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC Two), Alan Davies’ As Yet Untitled (Dave), Just A Minute (BBC Radio 4), and The News Quiz (BBC Radio 4). With STEWART LEE, RICHARD wrote and performed in two series of Fist of Fun (BBC One/BBC Two) followed by two series of This Morning with Richard Not Judy (BBC Two), and with AL MURRAY devised and wrote 37 episodes of Time Gentleman Please (Sky One/Paramount). He has also written and performed in You Can Choose Your Friends (ITV) and Richard Herring’s Objective (BBC Radio 4).
On the stage, RICHARD has written and performed in a number of critically acclaimed plays at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, including I Killed Rasputin, Punk’s Not Dead, Excavating Rita, and It’s Not the End of the World. He has written an entry on his blog Warming Up every day since 2002, creating what it is believed to be the second longest running consecutive daily blog in the world.
