AWARD-WINNING COMEDIAN GARRETT MILLERICK’S DEBUT RADIO SITCOM ‘DO GOODERS’ TO AIR FROM TUESDAY 30TH JULY

BBC RADIO 4 AIR DATE ANNOUNCED AS FAY RIPLEY AND LISA MCGRILLIS JOIN FRANK SKINNER FOR ‘DO GOODERS’ CAST

Comedy and sitcom legends, actors Fay Ripley (Cold Feet) and Lisa McGrillis (Mum) have joined comedy legend Frank Skinner, 2023 Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Ahir Shah, Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Ania Magliano and award-winning comedian Garrett Millerick in the cast of his new six-part series for BBC Radio 4. Do Gooders, a fresh ensemble workplace sitcom that takes us behind the charity curtain and mines the numerous frustrations that come with trying to ‘do good’ on an industrial scale, debuts on Tuesday 30th July at 6.30pm.

The series follows the exploits of the fundraising events team at a fictional mid-level charity, The Alzheimers Alliance. Fundraising for this kind of mid-table organisation comes with its own unique set of challenges, be it setting up eye catching events, courting celebrity endorsement or juggling the inter charity politics. And whilst certainly not languishing on the lowest rungs of the charity league table, Alzheimers hasn’t got the dazzling sheen or the pulling power of a cancer charity, nor does it capture the public’s sympathies in the way lifeboats or guide dogs do. If Cancer Research is Coca-Cola, Alzheimers Alliance is Lilt. A cracking drink, but they’ve got to work hard to remind people they exist or else face total extinction.

A phenomenal stand-up comic, writer and director, Garrett recently performed stand-up on legendary US late night show Conan and has spent the past four consecutive years being recommended as one of the top comedy shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This year will see Garrett bring a brand-new show¸ Garrett Millerick Needs More Space, to this year’s Fringe before embarking on a nationwide tour. Garrett’s last hour was named as one of the best reviewed shows at the Fringe 2023, whilst his breakout live show Sunflower was also one most talked about shows of 2018 and saw him nominated for Breakthrough Act at the 2019 Chortle Awards, as well as a winner at the Three Weeks Editor’s Choice Awards that same year. Following up the show with Smile and Just Trying to Help, which was nominated for Best Show at the 2022 Leicester Comedy Festival, all three critically-acclaimed shows were recorded and made available internationally.

Written by and starring Garrett Millerick, Do Gooders is an Avalon production. Executive Producers are Richard Allen-Turner, Daisy Knight, Julien Matthews and Jon Thoday. The Producer is Jules Lom and the Commissioning Editor for BBC Radio 4 is Julia McKenzie.

Do Gooders first airs on Tuesday 30th July at 6.30pm on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds
