“Tiernan boasts a magnificent curl in her lip and snarl in her voice” Sunday Times

Comedian and writer Eleanor Tiernan brings her 9th solo show, Enjoying The Spotlight Responsibly, to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August. Fresh from rave reviews at the 2019 Melbourne Comedy Festival (33 must-see shows of the 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Herald Sun), Enjoying The Spotlight Responsibly will be performed from 3rd August to 25th August at 2.20pm at PBH’s Banshee Labyrinth.

Curled in up bed, Eleanor binge-watches true crime, completely insulated from the actual crime happening outside her door. The gap between what she is doing and what she could be doing to improve our world has never been bigger. But her smartphone is about to be stolen, dragging her from the comfort of her duvet, and she’s about to find that the real world can mock us far more savagely than any online fantasy. Join Eleanor for a dose of her trademark acerbic wit and chronic overthinking in an exploration of what, if any, satisfaction can be found and whether she’s willing to endure the requisite amount of discomfort to get it.

Eleanor has been a panellist on BBC Radio 4’s News Quiz and Where’s the F In News? as well as on BBC Northern Ireland’s The Blame Game. Her stand up has featured on Comedy Central’s The Alternative Comedy Experience and led her to be chosen as support act for Stewart Lee, Tig Notaro, Ardal O’Hanlon, Jason Manford, Jason Byrne and Reg D. Hunter among others.  Eleanor has been invited to the Montreal Just For Laughs festival where she performed on the festival’s New Faces showcase alongside Pete Holmes and Kumail Nanjiani.  Her 2017 show People Pleaser put her on the Sunday Times’ Top Ten Female Stand-Ups To Watch. Eleanor frequently writes opinion pieces for the Irish Times, and has written for The I. She wrote and performed on the critically-acclaimed political satire show Irish Pictorial Weekly (RTÉ). She has been seen as Dolores in the RTÉ sitcom Bridget and Eamon, and she played Mary in a critically acclaimed run of Alone It Stands in theatres across Ireland. Her other credits include Monumental (BBC NI), The Craig Doyle Show (RTÉ), Headwreckers (Channel Four), Stand and Deliver (RTÉ), The Panel (RTÉ), The Savage Eye (RTÉ), Republic of Telly (RTÉ) and Bad Language (BBC Radio Scotland).

“The fastest-rising comedy talent in the country” Irish Times

“Tiernan has a uniquely oblique angle on the word, and her routines have a touch of whimsy while grounded in astute observation. It means her set sounds fresh and original, without being so wilfully strange it will alienate all but the most dedicated followers” Chortle

“Eleanor Tiernan is far and away the best comic actress I have seen on stage” Hot Press Ireland

“Cliché-free and completely unconventional” Herald Scotland
