“The best political comedian in the business… Zaltzman is breathtakingly good”
Time Out
Following a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe and his second US tour, Andy Zaltzman will bring a live episode of his global hit satirical podcast The Bugle to London’s Leicester Square Theatre on 16th November, featuring Australian comedian Alice Fraser and The Mash Report (BBC Two) presenter Nish Kumar as guest co-hosts. The show will see them satirising major, minor and made-up news stories, as they attempt to find the funny side of one of the least amusing news environments in living memory.
From its inception in 2007 until 2016, Andy wrote and presented The Bugle with his long-term collaborator John Oliver (host of HBO’s Last Week Tonight). Andy relaunched the podcast in October 2016 as part of the Radiotopia network, where it resides alongside 99% Invisible, Criminal, The Allusionist, and many other leading podcasts.
Since its relaunch, Andy has been joined by an evolving group of co-hosts from around the world including Hari Kondabolu (USA), Anuvab Pal (India), Tom Ballard (Australia), Al Murray (UK), as well as Alice, Nish, and Andy’s multi-award-winning sister Helen Zaltzman (host of The Allusionist).
During its decade-long existence The Bugle has achieved a huge global fanbase, regularly appearing in the iTunes Chart Top Ten, and totalling over 70 million downloads across more than 300 episodes. Since the relaunch, it has regularly achieved over 250,000 downloads a week, totalling more than 12 million a year.
The Leicester Square Theatre show is the latest of several live editions of The Bugle, following the inaugural live show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and further performances at the Edinburgh Fringe, the Soho Theatre, the London Podcast Festival, and the Underbelly Festival in London.
Andy is a regular correspondent on Unspun with Matt Forde (Dave), and his extensive TV and radio credits also include Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC Three), and The Alternative Comedy Experience (Comedy Central). He has made regular appearances on The Now Show (BBC Radio 4), and was a core member of the team on 7 Day Sunday/Saturday (BBC Radio 5 Live) throughout its existence. He has also performed stand-up around the world, with appearances at the Melbourne, Sydney and New Zealand Comedy Festivals, as well as tours of the USA and India. Internationally, he has also performed on John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show (Comedy Central), as well as the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s flagship satirical shows The Weekly and The Great Debate.
Also regarded as one of the funniest and most distinctive voices in the cricket media, Andy’s writings include a major article in the most recent Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack. He has contributed blogs, podcasts and videos to ESPNcricinfo since 2008, and in 2016 joined the BBC’s Test Match Special commentary team as an expert statistician. He has also hosted Andy Zaltzman’s Summer of Sport, a non-football sports comedy podcast for The Guardian.
