Following the success of sold-out and critically-acclaimed runs at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Foster’s Edinburgh Best Show Comedy Award and MICF Barry Award winning Sam Simmons is set to perform his new show Sam Simmons: A-K at the Soho Theatre from 25th July- 5th August, ahead of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe at Assembly George Square Studios from 11-27th August. In this latest offering, Sam challenges a reviewer’s claim that he could make reading a phonebook funny, through having a forty-year old dickhead (Sam) sitting on stage and reading a phonebook.
Sam is one of the most daring and unconventional stand-up comedians performing in the UK and Australia today. An Edinburgh Fringe favourite, Sam has been playing the festival since 2006. His completely original and vastly absurd style has him receive widespread critical acclaim and Fosters Edinburgh Best Show Comedy Award nominations for Meanwhile (2011) and Sam Simmons: Death of a Sails-Man (2014) which culminated with the Fosters Edinburgh Best Show Comedy Award for Sam Simmons: Spaghetti for Breakfast in 2015. Attracting equally impressive attention in Australia, Sam’s recent accolades include scooping the prestigious Barry Award at MICF in 2015 for Spaghetti for Breakfast and Best Comedy Performer at the Helpmann Awards in 2014 for Death of a Sails-Man. He is one of only two comedians to have won the Foster’s Edinburgh Best Show Comedy Award and MICF Barry Award for the same show.
After performing Sam Simmons: Not a People Person at the Edinburgh Fringe last year, Sam landed his own BBC Radio 4 series working under the same title, adding to an extensive list of broadcast credits including recently appearing on Live At The Apollo (BBC Two), 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (Ch4), Comedy Blaps (Ch 4) and Top Ten (BBC Three). Previous credits include Sam writing and starring in comedy series Problems (Dave) and The Urban Monkey with Murray Foote (ABC) and performing on Conan (TBS).
