Channel 4 has announced the commission of a new 4 x 60’ series, Bus Pass Bandits (working title). People used to think that hitting 65 years old and retiring meant that life was over and it was time to join the blue rinse brigade. However, in this day and age you’re more likely to see a pensioner starting a new career, growing old disgracefully or travelling around the world.
In this new series produced by Liberty Bell for More 4, we meet the UK’s most amazing pensioners including John Prescott, Johnny Ball, Eve Pollard, Amanda Barrie and Henry Blofeld, and explore what it means to be an OAP in modern Britain.
Bus Pass Bandits (w/t) was commissioned by Channel 4’s Head of Formats Dom Bird and will be made by Liberty Bell Productions, series produced by Isobel Williams (Nev’s Indian Call Centre, UKTV, Young Vets, BBC2) and executive produced by Jon Connerty (Russell Howard and Mum, Comedy Central and Sugar Free Farm, ITV1), and Jamie Isaacs (Sugar Free Farm, ITV1, The Choir, BBC2).
Channel 4’s Head of Formats Dom Bird said “Never has there been a better era in which to grow old disgracefully. In Bus Pass Bandits, our Celebrity cast will discover that for many, life truly does begin at 70…or 80…or even 90”
Jamie Isaacs, Chief Executive of Avalon Television said, “It’s a funny idea with a serious side.”
