Building on the success of high praise received for his “hilarious narration” (i newspaper) on ITV2’s hit show Love Island and performing a completely sold out run with his fifth stand-up hour Onwards! at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer, Scottish BAFTA award winning and triple BAFTA nominated comedian IAIN STIRLING kick starts a UK tour with his biggest London performance to date at the Leicester Square Theatre on 12th October. Exploring the perception of his generation within today’s society, as well as looking at their function within it, IAIN will provide “an intriguing twentysomething perspective on the current state of his nation” (The Guardian Guide) at twenty UK theatres up until March 2017.
Well known on television, IAIN returned to voice 2016’s second series of Love Island (ITV2) alongside presenter CAROLINE FLACK which enjoyed rating successes, with a peak of 1.8 million and a consolidated average of 1.4 million (830,000 more than series one which aired last year). IAIN’s role writing and narrating on the show was significantly acknowledged, with viral acclaim including “the hilarious Scottish narrator brings some serious banter to the show with his punchy one-liners” (Daily Mail) and “offering up short, sharp and smart thoughts…Stirling adds topical panel show vibe to proceedings” (Radio Times). Following Love Island (ITV2) IAIN recently starred in BBC Comedy Feed Pumped, adding to a list of multiple television credits including Drunk History (Comedy Central), Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC Three), Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central), Fake Reaction and Safe Word (ITV2), Sweat the Small Stuff (BBC Three) and hosting his own Scottish BAFTA winning (best children’s show) panel show The Dog Ate My Homework (CBBC). A regular voice on the radio too, IAIN has made appearances on shows including The Now Show and Dilemma (both BBC Radio 4), Afternoon Edition (BBC Radio 5 Live), Cel Spellman (BBC Radio One) and recorded a Radio One takeover.
IAIN burst onto the comedy scene whilst studying for a Law degree at Edinburgh University, reaching the finals of both the Paramount Funniest Student competition (2009), and the Chortle Student Comedian of the Year competition (2009) and has since performed five consecutive sold out and acclaimed shows, Happy To Be The Clown? (2012), Iain Stirling At Home (2013), Everything (2014), Touchy Feely (2015) and Onwards! (2016) at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Just one week after graduating, IAIN found himself on a train down to London to begin presenting on CBBC and just two years later he received a BAFTA nomination for Best Children’s Presenter (2011) which was followed last year with another nomination in this category. A driving force behind the concept of comedy panel show The Dog Ate My Homework (CBBC), IAIN co-wrote and hosted two series which had celebrity guests including SUSAN CALMAN, ROMESH RANGANATHAN and MTV’s JOEL DOMMETT. IAIN has written for, developed and presented a number of other CBBC projects, including: Help! My Supply Teacher Is Magic, 12 Again and All Over the Place. His love of football has led him to commentate for CBBC’s Red Button Coverage of the World Cup and he has also appeared on CBBC’s Match of the Day Kickabout and Hawksbee and Jacobs (talkSPORT).
