DOUBLE EDINBURGH COMEDY AWARD NOMINEE CARL DONNELLY RETURNS TO THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL FRINGE WITH ‘BAD MAN TINGS’

Observational genius The Guardian

Double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee CARL DONNELLY returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August with his eighth consecutive hour, Bad Man Tings. Finding peace in a functioning relationship, career and plant-based diet, CARL is living up to 34 being statistically the happiest year of your life. But is being happy funny? Transitioning away from material on masculinity and depression which comprised his critically acclaimed show Jive Ass Honky last year, CARL will explore what it is to be a white liberal in 2016, looking at societal components including Generation Z, health fads, Netflix documentaries and Kanye West.

An Edinburgh Fringe favourite, CARL’s conversational style of comedy landed him nominations for the Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2013 and for Best Newcomer in 2009 nomination. He has won Best Newcomer at The Chortle Awards (2007), Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year (2007) and Laughing Horse New Act of the Year (2006). Known internationally as well as in the UK, CARL has performed at some of the biggest comedy festivals in the world including; Montreal Just for Laughs, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival and Kilkenny Cat Laughs.

CARL has recently appeared on Alan Davies’ As Yet Untitled (Dave) and Football Tonight (BT Sport), adding to a list of multiple television credits including Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central), Mock The Week (BBC Two), Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC Three), Stand Up For The Week (Channel 4) and Dave’s One Night Stand. He has featured on radio programmes including:  The Back End of Next Week (BBC Radio 5 Live), Loose Ends (BBC Radio 4), Act Your Age (BBC Radio 4) and is a regular guest on talkSPORT.

In 2013 CARL and fellow-comic CHRIS MARTIN re-launched the Carl Donnelly and Chris Martin Comedy Podcast on Soundcloud which has recorded over 150 episodes and gained over 50,000 subscribers to date. The boys are set to podcast at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe again in August and will be joined by a host of comic guests.

CARL’s ongoing commitment to Veganism has seen him perform at Vegan festivals, campaign for ‘Veganuary’, write about and be featured on the topic in multiple publications including Metro, the Independent and Vegan Health and Fitness. CARL is currently working on a new podcast, You Don’t Look Like A Vegan, in which he talks to fellow vegans.
