“Bugeja has an eye for original comic detail that’s all his own”
James Kettle, The Guardian
“drum-tight, as if polished by a sitcom writers’ room to cram as many jokes in as humanly possible”
★★★★
Steve Bennett, Chortle
BBC New Comedy Award winner STEVE BUGEJA will bring his critically acclaimed 2015 Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut show Day Release to London’s Soho Theatre for two final performances on 8th and 9th July. The show sees the Amused Moose and Laughing Horse New Act of the Year finalist recount the heart-warming tale of how he spent a day with a convicted criminal, on day release from prison for the first time in 18 years. All to impress a girl. Following Day Release, STEVE will return to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August with a brand new show, Unpronounceable.
Making a name for himself on TV and radio, STEVE will be appearing as a guest on the upcoming series of Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central), and Top Tens (BBC Three), having previously featured on The Dog Ate My Homework (CBBC), and Fresh from the Fringe (BBC Radio 4). Also a prolific writer, STEVE has contributed material to Mock the Week (BBC Two), 8 out of 10 Cats (Channel 4), Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC Two), The Now Show (BBC Radio 4), and The News Quiz (BBC Radio 4).
In 2014, STEVE performed as part of the Fringe’s longest-running showcase, The Comedy Zone, and supported RUSSELL KANE on his national tour ‘Smallness’. 2012 saw STEVE win the BBC’s Funny on Three sitcom competition and the Jesting About 2: Funny Gets Serious sketch competition.
