US STAND-UP COMEDIAN JEN KIRKMAN ANNOUNCES A RETURN TO THE SOHO THEATRE WITH RUN OF NEW SHOW FOLLOWED BY BOOK SIGNING & DEBUT PERFORMANCES IN MANCHESTER & LATITUDE FESTIVAL

Following sell-out runs in 2013 and 2015, stand-up comedian, author and podcaster JEN KIRKMAN is back at the Soho Theatre with a new one woman show based on the theme of her new book I Know What I’m Doing & Other Lies I Tell Myself (Dispatches From a Life Under Construction.) Comprising of six short stories (not from the book), I Know What I’m Doing & Other Lies I Tell Myself relives times in JEN’S life when she thought she knew what she was doing and nothing went according to plan; from a failed childhood talent show, to early anxiety over nuclear war, a fear of flying class that didn’t work, and relationships that were too hot or too cold but never just right. A book signing will follow the show.

The six night run at the Soho Theatre begins on the 18th July and is bookended with debut performances at Latitude Festival on the 17th July and at Manchester’s Pub/Zoo on the 24th July.

JEN’S “confessional and fearless personality” (New York Times) often draws sharp and hilarious observations from being divorced and childless in an unsupportive society and has landed her a Netflix Original Comedy Special I’m Gonna Die Alone (And I Feel Fine) *available worldwide.  She is also a New York Times bestseller with I Can Barely Take Care Of Myself: Tales of a Happy Life Without Kids (2013) and in April (2016) released her follow up book I Know What I’m Doing and Other Lies I Tell Myself; (Dispatches From a Life Under Construction) through Simon & Schuster. Her intimate podcast I Seem Fun receives around 50,000 downloads a month and was voted one of the “top 10 podcasts you should be listening to in 2015” by Cosmopolitan. She continues her rise with nearly 180,000 followers on Twitter and two stand-up albums under her belt, Hail to the Freaks (2011) which hit #13 on the Billboard charts and Self Help (2006).

JEN is probably best known as a long term writer and round table guest for Chelsea Lately and is also well known for her roles as the narrator in many episodes of the Sundance Film Festival jury prize winning Funny or Die web-turned-TV cult series Drunk History which is now in its third season on Comedy Central, as well as for multiple appearances on late night talk shows including The Tonight Show with JAY LENO, Conan, JOHN OLIVER’S New York Stand-Up Show and The Late Late Show with CRAIG FERGUSON.

Born in Boston, JEN resides today in Los Angeles. As a stand-up, she tours both nationally and internationally and most recently performed a sell-out run at the Melbourne Comedy Festival for the second time.

What the press has said about Jen Kirkman:

“[I Know What I’m Doing & Other Lies I Tell Myself] is about a ballsy, smart woman who, despite the six stories, really does have it together. Or at least knows how to create comedy gold out of impulsive decision-making.” Daily Review, AU

“Ms. Kirkman knows how to deliver a one-liner, but her inclination is to linger in the telling of a story. She digs into a subject, embroidering it with jokes at various angles. A huge number of her bits culminate in vivid metaphors” The New York Times

“Jen Kirkman is a thinking person’s comedian. Not by being hyper-intellectual—although she’s a fiendishly smart writer and performer—but by doing comedy for people who live inside their own heads.”  The Onion AV Club
