EDINBURGH 2013: HELEN O’BRIEN – BRONAGH’S BIG WEEKEND

It’s 1987. Bronagh is becoming a teenager, competing in the Irish Dancing Championships and being a bridesmaid at her cousin’s wedding. This is a one-woman comedy show about awkward names, ra-ra skirts, bad haircuts, a 13th birthday and a mad weekend in a mad Irish family. Think Four Weddings and a Funeral with Irish dancing and restraining orders. Written and performed byBBC New Comedy Award Winner and Funny Women Finalist HELEN O’BRIEN, Bronagh’s Big Weekend is one not to be missed this Edinburgh Fringe season.

An accomplished performer and writer, HELEN O’BRIEN began her career as a member of The Durham Revue comedy group, before joining Off The Ground Theatre Company, where she starred in a large number of productions including Romeo and Juliet, Wyrd Sisters and Witches Abroad. Here she also played the lead role of Rita in 80s classic, Educating Rita. HELEN has performed in and written for sketch shows at The Edinburgh Festival including Innocent Bystanders and Domestic Goddi. Domestic Goddi returned to Edinburgh in 2009 and 2010 to great critical acclaim. HELEN has been part of the writing team for Sex Bombs, for BBC Northern Ireland.

HELEN will also perform Mrs Manning, a night of character, sketch and musical comedy on the free Fringe – Laughing Horse @ The Free Sisters.
