WINNER OF 2018 EDINBURGH COMEDY AWARD FOR BEST NEWCOMER CIARÁN DOWD RETURNS TO THE FRINGE WITH HIGHLY ANTICIPATED FOLLOW-UP ‘PADRE RODOLFO’

“joyous, award-winning hour, in which Irish comedian Dowd plays a swashbuckling Lothario, is essentially a one-man panto for grown-ups who don’t like panto” The Telegraph

“a happy hour of gleefully Fringey late-night nonsense: nonsense sustained, it should be said, by deceptive quantities of craftsmanship behind all the loopy swordfighting, sweaty singing, liberty-taking crowdplay and parodic storytelling” ★★★★The Times

“comedy of the most ridiculous variety” ★★★★ The Guardian

“a riot from beginning to end…a cult hit” ★★★★★ Chortle

Winner of the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Newcomer 2018 for his smash hit Don Rodolfo, Ciarán Dowd returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with the highly anticipated follow-up, supernatural action-adventure Padre Rodolfo from 31st July to 25th August at 9.45pm at Pleasance Upstairs.

In the wake of an unspeakable tragedy, world-famous lothario, swordsman and butthead Rodolfo turns his back on his lifestyle – rejects the sword, takes a vow of chastity and joins the priesthood. But as dark forces rise he must face personal demons and battle actual demons.

As well as following his sell-out run at last year’s Fringe with two successful runs at Soho Theatre and a nomination for Breakthrough Act at the 2019 Chortle Awards, Ciarán is currently developing his own scripted comedy for the BBC, has appeared in Josh (BBC1), GameFace (E4/Hulu), Zapped (Dave), and has made the most guest appearances on Drunk History (Comedy Central). This year he can be seen in Stephen Merchant’s feature film Fighting With My Family (Film4) and Keith Lemon: Coming in America (ITV2). Ciarán has also recently been seen on stage in the new comedy play Chasing Bono by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais (writers of Porridge, The Likely Lads and Auf Wiedersehen Pet) at Soho Theatre. Ciarán is also a member of the critically acclaimed sketch group BEASTS. BEASTS have made numerous appearances on BBC Radio 4, were nominated for the Amused Moose Comedy Awards in 2014 and their sell-out shows were among the top reviewed at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
