Following sell-out Christmas Specials in 2016 and 2017 which featured Ed Balls, Alastair Campbell, Nick Clegg and Anna Soubry, Matt Forde’s critically-acclaimed Political Party returns to London’s Leicester Square Theatre for two live festive podcast recordings on the 19th and 20th December with house band MP4, the UK’s only cross-party political rock band, and some of Westminster’s most charismatic and controversial figures.
Joining Matt on Wednesday 19th December are the first elected Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley and women’s advocate Jess Phillips and Conservative MP Sarah Wollaston, former GP now Chair of the Liaison Committee and the Health Select Committee. On Thursday 20th December, Matt’s guests will see the return of former PM Tony Blair’s Director of Communications and Strategy Alistair Campbell and alternative Brexit plan deviser Tory MP, Nick Boles.
Matt’s London show, The Political Party, has been a sell-out during its monthly residency at Westminster’s The Other Palace for nearly six years. The former advisor to the Labour Party has brought Parliament to life with his stand-up and debate with some of politics’ most powerful and notorious figures, including Tony Blair, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Ed Balls, Ruth Davidson, Alastair Campbell, Michael Portillo, Harriet Harman, Nigel Farage, Neil Kinnock, Alan Johnson, Lord Prescott, Jack Straw and Dame Tessa Jowell. The Political Party is now released weekly as a podcast and has amassed over 1 million downloads on Soundcloud, received a 2018 Best Comedy Podcast nomination from the British Podcast Awards, is one of The Observer’s top political podcasts picks, hit the top spot of the iTunes comedy chart, was highlighted as the Daily Telegraph’s podcast of the week and was nominated for the Internet Award at the Chortle Awards.
Matt has hosted four series of Unspun on Dave. The highly topical political comedy chat received a nomination for the Best Entertainment Programme Broadcast Digital Award this year, following a nomination for the same award last year. He is currently on a nationwide tour with his sold-out and critically-acclaimed 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, Brexit Through The Gift Shop.
