Master Of Bespoke Satire Andy Zaltzman Returns To The Soho Theatre For A Brexit-Themed Satirist For Hire Run

“Political satire at its most enjoyable” ★★★★ Dominic Maxwell, The Times

“Probably the best satirical comic we’ve produced in the last two decades. Intelligent, biting and silly” Ben Williams, Time Out London

“Political comedy at its best” Stephen Armstrong, Sunday Times

“Fiendishly sharp satirist” Bruce Dessau, Evening Standard

Andy Zaltzman, host of the long-running global hit podcast The Bugle, is bringing Satirist For Hire back to the Soho Theatre on 26th, 27th and 28th March, for a special run of his uniquely interactive satirical show in the build-up to Britain’s scheduled exit from the European Union on 29th March.

A show where no two performances are ever the same, Satirist For Hire invites audience members to submit topics both in advance by email, and on the night in person, for bespoke on-demand satire, concocted and delivered by one of the UK’s leading political comedians.  Andy will address all aspects of Brexit – past, present and future; political, social, and intensely personal; Leave, Remain, or Both-And-Neither-In-Nor-Out Pseudocompromise – in response to his audience’s queries, complaints and requests.

Of course, by late March, Brexit may have been (a) delayed, (b) involuntarily hibernated, (c) taken to a barn and humanely injected with a second referendum, or (d) brought forward and have already proved a roaring success.  Whatever happens, in Satirist For Hire, Andy will deliver personally-tailored routines as demanded by his audience, in the inimitable style that has helped The Bugle become one of the most successful satirical podcasts in the world.

Andy has collaborated with John Oliver since 2001, and together they presented The Bugle from its inception in 2007 until 2015. The podcast was relaunched in September 2016, with Andy now joined by a revolving group of regular international co-hosts including The Mash Report’s Nish Kumar (UK), The Problem With Apu star Hari Kondabolu (USA), Alice Fraser (Aus) and Anuvab Pal (India).   Over the past twelve years The Bugle has become one of iTunes’ most enduringly popular and critically-acclaimed comedy podcasts, with a huge global fan base including a large US audience, leading to a 12-date American tour in 2019, which followed sell-out performances in the UK, Australia and Ireland.

Andy’s live work has drawn audiences around the world.  He has toured Satirist For Hire around the UK, Australasia, Canada and the USA, and took his Plan Z show to the 2017 Melbourne Comedy Festival.  He has been a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe for almost 20 years, building his reputation as one of the most inventive satirists in the world. He is a fixture at the Soho Theatre, performing his yearly round-up shows, most recently 2018: The Certifiable History.

Andy’s extensive TV and radio appearances include John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show (Comedy Central), The Alternative Comedy Experience (Comedy Central), The News Quiz (BBC Radio 4), 7 Day Sunday (BBC Radio 5 Live), and The Now Show (BBC Radio 4).   In 2017, he presented My Life As… on BBC Radio 4, in which he examined ancient philosophies such as Stoicism and Epicureanism, and, with Anuvab Pal, he wrote and presented the 2018 show Empire-ical Evidence, also on BBC Radio 4, which addressed the architectural legacy of Britain’s imperial relationship with India.  Andy is the first stand-up comedian to double up as a cricket statistician for BBC Radio’s Test Match Special.

In 2008 his book Does Anything Eat Bankers? was published by Old Street Publishing.
