“My favourite mimic really creates an impression as a classical pianist” Nick Pritchard, The Sun
“He plays the piano splendidly” Kate Kellaway, The Observer
“Alistair McGowan’s impressions are faultless” Stephen Armstrong, The Sunday Times
Following his Classical Chart-topping album (“Alistair McGowan: The Piano Album”) and his very popular tour, the multi-award-winning impressionist will be returning to the stage to mix classical piano music, historical anecdotes and celebrity voices in Introductions to Classical Piano from 3rd April to 14thJuly 2019.
Best known for his BAFTA-winning comedy show, “The Big Impression”, the master mimic brings to life his love of classical piano in tandem with his spot-on impressions.
Having not played the piano since he was a boy, Alistair reignited his passion for the instrument in his late 40s in order to play some of his favourite music, which led to the recording of his album (with Sony Classical) just three years after his return to piano playing.
Alistair McGowan said: “This tour is a whole new way of presenting classical piano music. It is, possibly, the first classical event in the world which has tried to intersperse romantic music with comedy. I’d be delighted if, as well as fans of classical music, I was able to encourage people who may not know much about the history of the piano to come and enjoy some of the incredible music written (and still being written) for the piano. As well as having the chance to share a little of the stories of the lives of the great composers and the extraordinary music they write, I simply can’t perform in a room and not have some fun with my favourite impressions. It could well be the first show in which you hear Harry Kane alongside the music of George Gershwin, Jacob Rees Mogg between pieces by Edvard Grieg.
I hope this show introduces people to some wonderfully romantic music and demonstrates to anyone who harbours a secret ambition to take up music, that it really is never too late!”
Join one man, a piano and some of the world’s most famous voices for a unique night of inspiring, short classical piano works and some big laughs.
