Creator and host of global hit podcast The Bugle, ANDY ZALTZMAN, has announced a triumphant return to the UK with shows at London’s Underbelly Festival and Soho Theatre following critically acclaimed runs at the Melbourne, Sydney and New Zealand comedy festivals. ANDY’s time in Australia saw him appear on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s flagship satirical show The Weekly, and the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s 28th annual Great Debate (also broadcast on ABC), while his live show Plan Z was described as “sparkling, intelligent” and “simply superb” by Melbourne’s Herald Sun.
ANDY’s shows in London will include the UK’s first ever live recordings of The Bugle, at Soho Theatre on 30th May, and the Underbelly Festival on 13th July, following a debut live episode in New Zealand. The Underbelly festival’s line-up will also include a performance of ANDY’s interactive stand-up show Satirist For Hire on 20th June. On 25th May, 29th May and 3rd June, ANDY will return to Soho Theatre to host Political Animal, “the best political comedy gig out there” (Time Out), with special guest comics serving up their newsiest material and leaving no socio-politico-economic hot potato unbuttered.
From its inception in 2007 until 2016, ANDY wrote and presented The Bugle with his long-term collaborator JOHN OLIVER (host of HBO’s Last Week Tonight). ANDY relaunched the podcast in October as part of the Radiotopia network, joined by a revolving group of regular co-hosts including WYATT CENAC, HARI KONDABOLU, NISH KUMAR, ANUVAB PAL and HELEN ZALTZMAN. During its decade long run The Bugle has achieved a huge global fanbase, regularly appearing in the iTunes Chart Top Ten and totalling over 70 million downloads across more than 300 episodes, averaging around 250,000 listeners per episode.
ANDY is a regular correspondent on Unspun with Matt Forde (Dave), recently commissioned for its third series, and his extensive TV and radio credits also include John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show (Comedy Central), Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC Three), The Alternative Comedy Experience (Comedy Central) and The News Quiz (BBC Radio 4). He has made regular appearances on The Now Show (BBC Radio 4), and has been a core member of the team on 7 Day Sunday/Saturday (BBC Radio 5 Live) since its inception in 2010. Andy conceived, wrote and hosted Andy Zaltzman’s History of the Third Millennium – Series 1 of 100 for BBC Radio 4, and in 2008 his book Does Anything Eat Bankers? was published by Old Street Publishing.
Also regarded as one of the funniest and most distinctive voices in the cricket media, ANDY’s writings include the lead article in the most recent Wisden Cricketers’ Almanac. He has contributed blogs, podcasts and videos to ESPNcricinfo since 2008, and in 2016 joined the BBC Test Match Special commentary team as an expert statistician. He has also hosted Andy Zaltzman’s Summer Of Sport, a non-football sports comedy podcast for The Guardian.
